Śnieżnik - one of the 28 peaks of the Crown of Polish Mountains, the highest peak of the Śnieżnik Massif... Is it possible to climb it in winter with the use of prosthetics? The participants of our PWD Winter Mountain Camp 2022 proved that yes!
The first two days were marked by trial routes around Międzygórze and to Jagodna in the Bystrzyckie Mountains, in order to identify the possibilities and pace of the group's movement in the terrain.
– Different prostheses, different walking pace, quite demanding winter conditions - all this meant that standard walking times had to be multiplied x2, while taking care of the safety of the group. Personally for me it was another important lesson of being a mountain guide. (...) A big salute to all the participants of the camp (...). You all are motivation for me to act and work on myself – wrote Tomasz Deroń, the coordinator and guide of the trip, on his Instagram.
Among the participants were several amputees, moving with prosthetic legs. We are glad that our group managed to make it despite rather demanding winter conditions! 12 participants and our guides climbed the peak of Jagodna in difficult conditions, and two days later they reached Śnieżnik!
– I would like to thank you for the opportunity to participate in Winter Mountain Camp 2022. I will always remember the amazing atmosphere I experienced during our hikes, which was created by professional guides who cared about us and their professionalism, attitude and commitment were at the highest level. During the camp I met many valuable and inspiring people. I congratulate you on your competence and professionalism in organizing expeditions. It is very important what you do in the field of tourism for people with disabilities – commented one of the participants on the trip.
We thank all the bold ones who decided to climb the peaks with us, and already today we invite you to the summer edition of the camp for people with disabilities on 4-9 July 2022.
