From zero to runner: My Poland Business Run Journey

13.07.2026

If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be writing an article about running, I would have laughed. The truth is, I have never considered myself a runner. Running was something other people did (and it was never on my bucket list).

Things changed in 2023. That year, I volunteered during the Business Run. My role was small, but it gave me the opportunity to see the event from behind the scenes. I watched thousands of people arrive early in the morning, wearing running shirts, gathering with colleagues, friends, and families. There was excitement everywhere, but what impressed me most was the atmosphere. It did not feel like a competition but like a community.

People were encouraging each other, celebrating every participant regardless of their pace, and most importantly, coming together for a meaningful cause.  I left that day with a thought in my mind: "Maybe next year I should try running". And that's exactly what happened.

I joined the Business Run as a runner in 2024, returned in 2025, and I am proud to say that I will be participating once more in the 2026 edition alongside many colleagues from HCLTech.

What keeps bringing me back is not the running itself. Of course, crossing the finish line feels great, but that is only part of the story. The real value of the Poland Business Run is what it represents. It is one of those rare events where wellbeing, teamwork, and social responsibility come together perfectly. Colleagues who normally meet in conference rooms meet on a running track instead. New friendships are created, teams connect outside of work, and everyone contributes to something bigger.

The fact that the event supports people with mobility disabilities and women after mastectomy gives every kilometer a deeper meaning. Knowing that our participation helps and supports those who need it most changes the way you look at the challenge. It becomes less about running and more about helping.

I am also proud that HCLTech continues to support this initiative and that this year we will once again be represented by multiple teams. For those who would like to join or support the event, the key dates in Kraków are:

  • Poland Business Run Kraków – 5 September 2026
  • Kids Run Kraków – 6 September 2026

Whether you are an experienced runner, someone considering their first race, or simply a person who wants to support a great cause, I can say that the Poland Business Run is worth experiencing. After all, I started as a volunteer who didn't run at all.

Three editions later, I'm still here, lacing up my running shoes and looking forward to another year of sharing this incredible experience with colleagues, friends, and thousands of people united by one common goal: helping others.

See you at the starting line!
